2010-2011 Season Info

New Official List
Thank you to all who attended our try out session. Unfortunately we are only able to provide coaching and enough games for 20 new officials this season and therefore our evaluators had to make some tough cuts. For those those that did not make please work hard on your skating and apply again for next season.

MEMORANDUM

January 29, 2010

TO:  BC Hockey Officials

FROM:  Barry Petrachenko
  BC Hockey Executive Director

SUBJECT:  UPDATED Criminal Records Check Requirement for BC Hockey Officials

Further to the information provided to you upon registering for a BC Hockey officiating clinic, please note that any official eighteen (18) years of age or older as of December 31, 2009 is required to complete a criminal records check (CRC) prior to midnight on December 31, 2009.  Failure to do so will affect your eligibility to officiate games under the jurisdiction of BC Hockey.

Your CRC will be valid for three (3) seasons, with the current season (2009-2010) counting as one of the three. Please use one of the below methods to complete your check:

1.  Attend your local police detachment and have the CRC completed at the detachment. BC Hockey must be sent the original. The only exception is that a police detachment may fax the criminal record check directly to BC Hockey, and it must be obvious that the fax was sent by a police detachment. All other faxes, copies and scans will not be accepted.

2.  Online through myBackCheck.com: www.backcheck.net/bchockey. BC Hockey has arranged for a discounted fee of $25 plus tax. However, due to unforeseen changes by the RCMP, identities cannot be verified online. You can still use the online process, but you will need to have a notary verify your identity in person. This may carry an additional fee but might be quicker than attending your detachment.

If the CRC is not completed by December 31, you will be prevented from officiating until it has been completed. A list of ineligible officials will be circulated to all Associations on that date.

Please note that anyone who has a record will need to have the details of that record released to BC Hockey by their local detachment before the CRC is considered to have been received in full. BC Hockey will review the details of the record and determine whether or not the individual is deemed to be a threat.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.  Please contact the BC Hockey office if you have any further questions regarding this process.
