Burnaby Minor honoured its volunteers Saturday, May 8 at our annual Volunteer Recognition and Award Banquet. Executive Director Larry Hayes presided over the event at the Hilton in Burnaby. Our Player awards were given out at our AGM on May 26.

Established in 1967/1968. Donated by the Corporation of the District of Burnaby, in memory of Fred Hume, deceased Reeve of Burnaby. It is presented annually to the Representative team which displays outstanding Aportsmanship throughout the playing season.

Gary Boyle Memorial Award
Sportsmanship, Character & Hockey Ability
Established by the BMHA Executive in 1974/75 from donations received in memory of Gary Boyle, a former playing member of the Association. This award is presented annually to a player displaying sportsmanship, character and hockey ability.

Alfred Balfry Memorial Award
Team Play, Character, Sportsmanship & Hockey Ability
Grade 12 Student - $500
Established by the BMHA Executive in 1980/1981 from donations received in memory of Alfred Balfry, a former playing member of the Association. This award, in the form of Bursary, is presented to a Grade XII player displaying team play, character, sportsmanship, and hockey ability. Being a bursary, it is intended for a member intending to participate in post-secondary education. The bursary was increased to $500 by the Executive in 2009/2010.

Most Valuable Rep Goaltender
Established in 1967/1968. The recipient is not necessarily the outstanding goalkeeper in the Association, but rather outstanding at his or her level. It is the player who played closest to his or her ability for the division or category in which the player was competing.

Jack Gilroy Award
Outstanding Goaltender – Atom House
Established in 1965/1966. Donated by Jack Gilroy, son of Mrs. Bette Gilroy, the first Registrar of BMHA and an original founding member. Jack, who had always played goal, was the goalkeeper on the first CAHA registered team to represent BMHA. His purpose in donating this trophy was to encourage children to become goalkeepers.
